Poet Mary Oliver wrote, “you do not have to be good… you only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.”  Unashamedly embracing the things we love can sometimes feel like it invites judgement, but when we embrace the power and passion of these loves, a liberative life is possible.

Expecting A Miracle

The Magnificat–the hymn of joy sung by Mary in the Gospel of Luke–is a text of radical justice and faith, and an exultation of promises fulfilled. In this season where we honor both the Jewish story of the Hanukkah miracle and the Christian observance of Advent, we look to joy as fuel for justice in a fraught and complex world.
