“The Courage of Seeking New Homelands” The Nepali-Bhutanese Example

As a Bhutanese-Nepali, Praja represents the several thousand Bhutanese-Nepalis now resident in Syracuse. Forced out of their Bhutan homeland in the early 1990s (often under terrible conditions), most were in Nepali refugee camps for twenty years before the UN found them new ‘forever’ homes, especially in the U.S. Their second migration brought them to the U.S. where they are initially settled on the Northside. Education, jobs, snow, –all present issues for this new American community.
